15.05.2a Weather Data

WEATHERDATA, INC. SKYGUARD® MONITORING SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The University of Texas Athletics subscribes to the WeatherData, Inc. SkyGuard® severe weather monitoring and alerting system.  The system provides real-time information, including severe weather monitoring and alerting of pending dangerous weather. 

SkyGuard® service provides the following performance functions:

  • Lightning ADVISORY when lightning is expected within 10 miles with 20 minutes advance notice.
  • Lightning WARNING when lightning has been detected within 10 miles.
  • Tornado WARNING when tornadoes are within 5 miles with desired lead time of 20 minutes advance notice.
  • Advisories/warnings issued between 5:00am – 12:00am daily.
  • Consulting privileges

SkyGuard® alerts are sent to designated staff from Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Events/Operations, Facilities, and designated Sports Programs.  The alerts are sent via pager, email, and/or text message.  A single email address has been established to receive the alerts – weather@athletics.utexas.edu
