6.05.1 Parking - Athletics Events

The general planning and management responsibility for athletic events parking rests with the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development.  The issuance of passes and allocation of space within specific lots is managed directly by the appropriate coordinating group (e.g., Media Relations Office, Longhorn Foundation, etc.).  In addition, the University President's Office controls the prioritizing and issuance of certain lot passes for The University of Texas administrative group.

Each season, lots managed by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics must be specified, including a listing of total number of spaces desired, and submitted for approval to the University’s Director of Parking and Transportation, who after determining the suitability of the request, forwards it to the Vice President of Business Affairs for final approval.

Prior to the beginning of each season, the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development, the Associate Athletics Director for Events, the Director of Parking and Transportation, the UT Police Chief and other selected staff meet to discuss traffic control and safety requirements for each venue.

Reserved Parking Priorities

The following groups are provided parking privileges for all men’s athletic events.  Space allocations are based on the total available space, demand for parking for the specific event, and the priority of each group identified below.  Group priorities are listed from highest to lowest, as follows:

  1. University-related Personnel
  2. Media
  3. Donors
  4. General Public (as available)

State Law prohibits the University from charging for public parking on campus.  Therefore, all parking is essentially reserved for the groups specified above.

  • Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for Men and Women

Departmental staff and Athletics Council members (present) are provided reserved parking for all athletic events.  In some cases, specifically baseball, parking is limited and must be requested on a game-by-game basis.  However, football reserved parking is provided on a seasonal basis.  Allocation is based on available space and the Longhorn Foundation Office provides pass issuance.
  • Media

The Media Relations Office allocates and issues media passes.  These media passes normally are issued for specific games with availability and priority determined by the Media Relations Office. In an effort to maintain consistency with parking and traffic control, media passes are provided by the Development Office.
  • Donors

Donors are issued parking passes based on their levels of contribution to the Department. Priority is granted based on the size of the contribution.  Larger contributors are provided priority-parking privileges closer to the stadium or arena.  However, parking location may change from year to year within specific donor levels based on the total number of available spaces and contributions received.

Lot Assignments

Specific lots around Darrell K Royal/Texas Memorial Stadium are reserved for staff and visiting administration, media and donors.  Lot spaces are not reserved by individual name.

Parking is regulated at each event by issuance of a reserved parking pass, which entitles the bearer entrance into a specific parking lot.  The UT Police and/or departmental employees manage all reserved lots.  Lot assignments are made on an annual basis and are determined by availability in conjunction with parking and traffic management procedures.
