2.00 Administrative Control

2.01.1 Governing Authority

The University of Texas System is governed by the Board of Regents, a nine (9) member board, selected from different areas of the state, appointed by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the State Senate.  Subject to the supervision of the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System and the authority it has vested in administrative officers, the overall governance of The University of Texas at Austin is the specific responsibility of the System's Chancellor with the President of the University accepting ultimate control and responsibility for governance of intercollegiate athletics endeavors.

This authority is delegated to the President of the University and to both Athletic Directors (considered members of the Vice Presidents’ Council under the President) under whose jurisdiction the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics directly falls.

However, the President is charged with the official responsibility for certifying that Athletics Department policies, programs, and activities are in compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Big 12 Conference rules and regulations, as well as the applicable laws of the State of Texas.
